"Ranging from 1914 to the present day, the exhibition was a unique Kemistry-curated retrospective of some of the most iconic and exciting moments in graphic design history. " - KEMISTRY GALLERY
Having researched Glaser to a further extent, it seems as though his very successful style of eccentric content is a running theme throughout his work.
I find myself interested in the parallel lines he creates, to me , which run between the real world and fantasy. There are elements of truth to his work and elements of imagination.
I think the concept of warped communication will be a helpful thought throughout the coming process weeks.
100 Years Of Graphic Design
I FOUND THE LAYOUT OF THE EXHIBITION TO STRONGLY CREATE A SENSE OF JOURNEY WHEN WALKING AROUND THE EXHIBITION. THE LONG RECTANGULAR PLAN OF THE SPACE MEANT THAT VISITORS FOLLOWED THE PATH OF THE WALLS AROUND THE WORK.
------> THE IDEA OF THE EXHIBITION BEING A JOURNEY IS RATHER APPROPRIATE FOR THE THEME '100 YEARS OF GRAPHIC DESIGN'. ALMOST AS IF THE VIEWER IS BEING TAKEN BACK THROUGH THE PAST 100 YEARS.
THE WORK WAS STRONGLY VARIED AND WAS PRIMARILY COMPRISED OF 2D PRINTS; I FOUND THE DIVERSITY IN SCALE, COLOUR AND CONTENT TO CREATE A BIG IMPACT WHEN FIRST ENTERING THE EXHIBITION SPACE.
I FOUND IT USEFUL TO A CONTRAST BETWEEN MODERN AND SLIGHTLY MORE TRADITIONAL WORK, ALTHOUGH MOST THINGS SEEMED RATHER CONTEMPORARY.
THE BOLD, BLOCK IMAGES DISPLAYED HAD STRONG AESTHETICS AND I INTEND TO DRAW FROM THE IDEA OF CLOCK IMAGES WHEN CREATING MY SCREEN PRINTS IN PRINT WEEK.
IT WAS DIFFICULT TO FOCUS IN ON JUST ONE ITEM BECAUSE THERE WAS SO MUCH WORK ON DISPLAY AND IT WAS ALL VERY CAPTIVATING. I SENSED THAT OTHER VIEWERS WERE FINDING THE EXPERIENCE SIMILAR TO MINE, AS VERY FEW PEOPLE WOULD LOOK AT AN INDIVIDUAL PIECE FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD.
I FOUND MYSELF INTERESTED IN AN ECCENTRIC PIECE BY MILTON GLASEER, IN WHICH SUBVERTS THE TRADITIONAL TALE OF THE WIZARD OF OZ. I BELIEVE THIS SUBVERSION AND MULTI-TONAL PRINT CAN RELATE TO MY WORK ON SUBVERTED LETTERS AND BODY MOVEMENT.
